CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
btrfs: fix qgroup reserve overflow the qgroup limit
We use extent_changeset->bytes_changed in qgroup_reserve_data() to record
how many bytes we set for EXTENT_QGROUP_RESERVED state. Currently the
bytes_changed is set as "unsigned int", and it will overflow if we try to
fallocate a range larger than 4GiB. The result is we reserve less bytes
and eventually break the qgroup limit.
Unlike regular buffered/direct write, which we use one changeset for
each ordered extent, which can never be larger than 256M. For
fallocate, we use one changeset for the whole range, thus it no longer
respects the 256M per extent limit, and caused the problem.
The following example test script reproduces the problem:
$ cat qgroup-overflow.sh
#!/bin/bash
DEV=/dev/sdj
MNT=/mnt/sdj
mkfs.btrfs -f $DEV
mount $DEV $MNT
# Set qgroup limit to 2GiB.
btrfs quota enable $MNT
btrfs qgroup limit 2G $MNT
# Try to fallocate a 3GiB file. This should fail.
echo
echo "Try to fallocate a 3GiB file..."
fallocate -l 3G $MNT/3G.file
# Try to fallocate a 5GiB file.
echo
echo "Try to fallocate a 5GiB file..."
fallocate -l 5G $MNT/5G.file
# See we break the qgroup limit.
echo
sync
btrfs qgroup show -r $MNT
umount $MNT
When running the test:
$ ./qgroup-overflow.sh
(...)
Try to fallocate a 3GiB file...
fallocate: fallocate failed: Disk quota exceeded
Try to fallocate a 5GiB file...
qgroupid rfer excl max_rfer

Since we have no control of how bytes_changed is used, it's better to
set it to u64. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
SUNRPC: Fix the svc_deferred_event trace class
Fix a NULL deref crash that occurs when an svc_rqst is deferred
while the sunrpc tracing subsystem is enabled. svc_revisit() sets
dr->xprt to NULL, so it can't be relied upon in the tracepoint to
provide the remote's address.
Unfortunately we can't revert the "svc_deferred_class" hunk in
commit ece200ddd54b ("sunrpc: Save remote presentation address in
svc_xprt for trace events") because there is now a specific check
of event format specifiers for unsafe dereferences. The warning
that check emits is:
event svc_defer_recv has unsafe dereference of argument 1
A "%pISpc" format specifier with a "struct sockaddr *" is indeed
flagged by this check.
Instead, take the brute-force approach used by the svcrdma_qp_error
tracepoint. Convert the dr::addr field into a presentation address
in the TP_fast_assign() arm of the trace event, and store that as
a string. This fix can be backported to -stable kernels.
In the meantime, commit c6ced22997ad ("tracing: Update print fmt
check to handle new __get_sockaddr() macro") is now in v5.18, so
this wonky fix can be replaced with __sockaddr() and friends
properly during the v5.19 merge window. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
cifs: potential buffer overflow in handling symlinks
Smatch printed a warning:
arch/x86/crypto/poly1305_glue.c:198 poly1305_update_arch() error:
__memcpy() 'dctx->buf' too small (16 vs u32max)
It's caused because Smatch marks 'link_len' as untrusted since it comes
from sscanf(). Add a check to ensure that 'link_len' is not larger than
the size of the 'link_str' buffer. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
Drivers: hv: vmbus: Deactivate sysctl_record_panic_msg by default in isolated guests
hv_panic_page might contain guest-sensitive information, do not dump it
over to Hyper-V by default in isolated guests.
While at it, update some comments in hyperv_{panic,die}_event(). |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm: fix unexpected zeroed page mapping with zram swap
Two processes under CLONE_VM cloning, user process can be corrupted by
seeing zeroed page unexpectedly.
CPU A CPU B
do_swap_page do_swap_page
SWP_SYNCHRONOUS_IO path SWP_SYNCHRONOUS_IO path
swap_readpage valid data
swap_slot_free_notify
delete zram entry
swap_readpage zeroed(invalid) data
pte_lock
map the *zero data* to userspace
pte_unlock
pte_lock
if (!pte_same)
goto out_nomap;
pte_unlock
return and next refault will
read zeroed data
The swap_slot_free_notify is bogus for CLONE_VM case since it doesn't
increase the refcount of swap slot at copy_mm so it couldn't catch up
whether it's safe or not to discard data from backing device. In the
case, only the lock it could rely on to synchronize swap slot freeing is
page table lock. Thus, this patch gets rid of the swap_slot_free_notify
function. With this patch, CPU A will see correct data.
CPU A CPU B
do_swap_page do_swap_page
SWP_SYNCHRONOUS_IO path SWP_SYNCHRONOUS_IO path
swap_readpage original data
pte_lock
map the original data
swap_free
swap_range_free
bd_disk->fops->swap_slot_free_notify
swap_readpage read zeroed data
pte_unlock
pte_lock
if (!pte_same)
goto out_nomap;
pte_unlock
return
on next refault will see mapped data by CPU B
The concern of the patch would increase memory consumption since it
could keep wasted memory with compressed form in zram as well as
uncompressed form in address space. However, most of cases of zram uses
no readahead and do_swap_page is followed by swap_free so it will free
the compressed form from in zram quickly. |

nvme: fix SRCU protection of nvme_ns_head list
Walking the nvme_ns_head siblings list is protected by the head's srcu
in nvme_ns_head_submit_bio() but not nvme_mpath_revalidate_paths().
Removing namespaces from the list also fails to synchronize the srcu.
Concurrent scan work can therefore cause use-after-frees.
Hold the head's srcu lock in nvme_mpath_revalidate_paths() and
synchronize with the srcu, not the global RCU, in nvme_ns_remove().
Observed the following panic when making NVMe/RDMA connections
with native multipath on the Rocky Linux 8.6 kernel
(it seems the upstream kernel has the same race condition).
Disassembly shows the faulting instruction is cmp 0x50(%rdx),%rcx;
computing capacity != get_capacity(ns->disk).
Address 0x50 is dereferenced because ns->disk is NULL.
The NULL disk appears to be the result of concurrent scan work
freeing the namespace (note the log line in the middle of the panic).

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm/khugepaged: invoke MMU notifiers in shmem/file collapse paths
Any codepath that zaps page table entries must invoke MMU notifiers to
ensure that secondary MMUs (like KVM) don't keep accessing pages which
aren't mapped anymore. Secondary MMUs don't hold their own references to
pages that are mirrored over, so failing to notify them can lead to page
use-after-free.
I'm marking this as addressing an issue introduced in commit f3f0e1d2150b
("khugepaged: add support of collapse for tmpfs/shmem pages"), but most of
the security impact of this only came in commit 27e1f8273113 ("khugepaged:
enable collapse pmd for pte-mapped THP"), which actually omitted flushes
for the removal of present PTEs, not just for the removal of empty page
tables. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
fscache: Fix oops due to race with cookie_lru and use_cookie
If a cookie expires from the LRU and the LRU_DISCARD flag is set, but
the state machine has not run yet, it's possible another thread can call
fscache_use_cookie and begin to use it.
When the cookie_worker finally runs, it will see the LRU_DISCARD flag
set, transition the cookie->state to LRU_DISCARDING, which will then
withdraw the cookie. Once the cookie is withdrawn the object is removed
the below oops will occur because the object associated with the cookie
is now NULL.
Fix the oops by clearing the LRU_DISCARD bit if another thread uses the
cookie before the cookie_worker runs.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
memcg: fix possible use-after-free in memcg_write_event_control()
memcg_write_event_control() accesses the dentry->d_name of the specified
control fd to route the write call. As a cgroup interface file can't be
renamed, it's safe to access d_name as long as the specified file is a
regular cgroup file. Also, as these cgroup interface files can't be
removed before the directory, it's safe to access the parent too.
Prior to 347c4a874710 ("memcg: remove cgroup_event->cft"), there was a
call to __file_cft() which verified that the specified file is a regular
cgroupfs file before further accesses. The cftype pointer returned from
__file_cft() was no longer necessary and the commit inadvertently dropped
the file type check with it allowing any file to slip through. With the
invarients broken, the d_name and parent accesses can now race against
renames and removals of arbitrary files and cause use-after-free's.
Fix the bug by resurrecting the file type check in __file_cft(). Now that
cgroupfs is implemented through kernfs, checking the file operations needs
to go through a layer of indirection. Instead, let's check the superblock
and dentry type. |

net: mana: Fix race on per-CQ variable napi work_done
After calling napi_complete_done(), the NAPIF_STATE_SCHED bit may be
cleared, and another CPU can start napi thread and access per-CQ variable,
cq->work_done. If the other thread (for example, from busy_poll) sets
it to a value >= budget, this thread will continue to run when it should
stop, and cause memory corruption and panic.
To fix this issue, save the per-CQ work_done variable in a local variable
before napi_complete_done(), so it won't be corrupted by a possible
concurrent thread after napi_complete_done().
Also, add a flag bit to advertise to the NIC firmware: the NAPI work_done
variable race is fixed, so the driver is able to reliably support features
like busy_poll. |
